Dangerous marks Mihov’s first hyperrealistic portrait — a provocative fusion of anonymity, pop culture, and technical precision. Created in 2019 during his studio’s relocation to Asia, the work challenges local conventions of portraiture, which often centre on family, authority, or self. Instead, Mihov presents an unnamed muse in a leather rabbit mask, chain in hand, spiked cuffs framing the composition — a nod to Ariana Grande’s “Dangerous” and the pop iconography of the era. By stripping away identity, yet amplifying persona, Mihov reframes what a portrait can be in the Asian art context, often characterised by portraiture of mostly political leaders. The work’s striking realism and cultural commentary earned it a feature in Forbes.
