The New Religion
Available
Oil on Canvas, 24 carat gold
61 cm (H) x 51 cm (W)
In this mischievous work, Mihov probes whether capitalism and wealth have supplanted traditional religious or non-monetary beliefs in our society. Growing up near Rila Monastery in Bulgaria, Mihov was deeply influenced by its spiritual presence, as his grandparents lived just half an hour away. The work’s blue background is a nod to art history and the fact that blue has long been associated with the rich and divine, from the ancient Egyptians who discovered it, through to the traditions of depicting Virgin Mary. The artwork features a playful depiction of Benjamin Franklin as not just a historical figure, but as an iconostas and the face of our modern capitalism, an icon of a new religion.

My BFF Ben
Available
Oil on canvas, USD prop bills collage, Acrylics, Glass Shards
59 cm (H) x 49 cm (W)
If money is our new religion, then there is certainly one person we want on speed dial, the one and only Ben Franklin.
America’s founding father has certainly had a reputation of a rock star during his lifetime, from attending parties with the French Royal Family to having his face placed as plaques on the corner of buildings. Today, this is one of the most recognized faces in the world, given the US dollar is also a global reserve currency.
In this piece, Mihov explores with a tongue-in-cheek the relations between our financial system, in particular the now widely known network of tropical off-shore islands, and consumerist obsessions.
The artwork is available in both physical and NFT formats through Hatch and MakersPlace.

Objects of Desire
Daylight
Private Collection Photography of ‘TIME!’ Limited Edition Metal
45 cm (H) x 40 cm (W)
The objective of ‘Objects of Desire’ was to position art as the central object of desire in an ad-like campaign using the same techniques utilised by luxury brands.
Number of photographs of the artwork ‘TIME!’ were staged in the artist’s studio in Singapore, using luxury goods and jewelry from brands like Cartier, Gucci, Fendi, Louis Vuitton, Versace, Dior, Hermès, and Veuve Clicquot*. The shoot was inspired by ad campaigns of luxury goods, as well as social media phenomenon such as the 'Flaunt your wealth challenge' that conquered Asia and depicted people supposedly falling out of their cars, yachts and private jets, surrounded by a pool of luxury goods. The difference being, that in this case Mihov positions art as the central object of desire, creating an interesting paradox with an art piece commenting on the chase and trappings of luxury, yet placed as the focal point in the position of a luxury-like object.
